Civil partnerships give same sex couples similar rights and responsibilities to married couples. Civil partnerships have equal rights in legal matters alongside married couples in relation to tax, employment benefits, recognition under intestacy rules and recognition for immigration purposes. You can dissolve a civil partnership if you have been in the civil partnership for one year.
