You can register your group or organisation with Volunteer Centre Hounslow by requesting an information pack and completing the enclosed registration form. The pack is designed to assist you in clarifying your volunteer needs and developing volunteer roles. A member of the Centre staff will be available to help you with this essential groundwork, which is crucial to the successful recruitment and retention of volunteers.
Once you have clearly defined your volunteer needs, every effort will be made to make the very best matches for your vacancies. A volunteer from Volunteer Centre Hounslow will contact you each month to update your needs and check which of your vacancies have been filled.
It is also helpful for us to know whether you are able to take on volunteers with extra support needs, whether your premises are accessible to disabled people and whether you have a designated member of staff responsible for inducting, training and supporting volunteers. The more information we have about your organisation, the more likely we are to find you a successful volunteer placement.
Once your organisation is registered with us, we will upload your vacancies onto the National Database of Volunteering Opportunities, www.do-it.org.uk. This will ensure that your vacancies are publicised nationwide. We will, of course, also promote your opportunities to volunteers visiting our offices for interview. We recruit between 500 and 600 volunteers each year.
Volunteer Centre Hounslow offers free training to staff of voluntary organisations and community groups on such topics as Volunteers and the Law, Recruiting and Inducting Volunteers and Good Practice in Involving Volunteers as well as personal development and basic IT courses. Member groups are encouraged to let us know their training needs and we will endeavour to develop courses to meet these. We run between 4 and 6 courses each year. Volunteer Centre Hounslow has built up a good relationship with a number of companies in West London and likes to keep a file of challenges from voluntary organisations which can quickly be passed on when we are approached by a company. A challenge can be the starting point for a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship. Companies find the team-building potential of undertaking challenges for voluntary sector organisations - for example refurbishing a building, tidying up a stretch of river bank or the garden of a hospice, putting on a fun day for disabled people – is invaluable. Company employees will usually be involved from the start of a project, either raising the money to buy the necessary materials or sourcing them free of charge and carrying out the job.
